WDEF News 12 | Dalton Businesses Adopt Tour de Georgia Teams
One of the things that's remarkable about the Tour de Georgia is the support the race gets from communities all along the race course. Yesterday, I shot the race in three cities. Thomaston had a good crowd at the start line, with autograph seekers lining the exit from rider sign-in. Newnan had just a sprint line, with the race in the city for only probably 15 minutes total (thanks to the 9-minute gap to the breakaway), but there were people set up at the sprint line 45 minutes before the riders appeared. School kids waited on their school's stoop to see the riders and motorcade pass through. In Rome, some people had been waited on Clocktower Hill for 3 hours.
And town businesses embrace the race, as well. The linked story is about downtown businesses in Dalton, which have adopted teams, and are decorating the business to root for that team when Stage 5 kicks off there on Friday.
Speaking of Dalton, I see Dalton's own Saul Raisin is engaged, with plans to marry within a year. Congratulations to Raisin, who continues to make great strides towards returning to the pro peloton after last year's life-threatening injury in the Circuit de la Sarthe.
